Patrick Fouquet is the first ladies and gentlemen coach of the France team of padel under the French Tennis Federation era.

A position he already knows very well since he had already been the coach of the France team of padel with the former French Federation of padel from 2008 to 2012 with honorable results: 5th at the world championship in Cancùn for men and the Bronze medal for girls (The best result for the French team).

The current sports director of Tennis Padel Roquettan therefore puts the table back this time with a “potential team that he considers even bigger".

Its role and objectives

Its mission is to provide the most competitive French team possible during the future European Championships of padel which will take place next November (13 to 19) in Portugal.

In his mission, the coach will be supported by Alexis Salles. He will have a role of adviser to Patrick Fouquet. Alexis Salles could see his role take more importance within the team of France soon. Case to follow.

How the selections for the 2017 European Championship work

For the European Championship of padel 2017, the selections therefore change compared to last year:

  • The 2 finalist pairs of the French championships padel 2017 will be selected
  • 4 players selected directly by the coach.

How the selections for the 2018 World Championship work

For the world of padel 2018, there will be selections that will come from a possible future Master of padel in 2018. Even if all this remains to be confirmed. The idea is as follows:

  • The 2 finalist pairs of the eventual Master of padel directly selected.
  • The winning pair of the French championships padel 2018
  •  2 people selected directly by the coach

Attention: The operating mode can still very much evolve.

Note the semantics of the coach: "I will select players and not pairs. Players often play with multiple partners".

The breeder method

Patrick Fouquet explains that his "selection will be based on 3 important criteria: Community life, holding on the field, level of play. "

In addition, to be selectable, you must have made at least 2 tournaments of padel of category P500 or P1000 before next September included. This point of the rules takes away 2 potentially selectable players:

  • Gaby Reca, the Franco-Argentinian, one of the best players in the world, who is participating for the first time in the French championship of padel alongside Fabrice Pastor.
  • Nallé Grinda, one of the best French left-handers, lives in the United States. He did not participate in the French championships of padel.

For one as the other, it will therefore imperative to participate in the month 2 big French tournaments by September next to be on the list of selectable.

Small precision and not insignificant: It is not because a player did not participate in the French championships padel that it is not selectable ...
