After famous video of Roger Federer playing padel, many fans dream of seeing the Swiss more often on the padel courts.

The fantasy Roger

Some even fantasize about a Roger's new career in this sport, something that seems more than improbable to us. Indeed, as talented as he is with a racket in his hands, Federer has no experience in this discipline. Given his injury history and the fact that he has spent his entire life on the tennis courts, it is hard to see him putting in the extra effort at 41 to try to reconvert to padel. And even if he did invest himself fully, how would he make up for lost time compared to today's young players?

What is certain, however, is that the man with 20 titles in the Grand Chelem should be able to enjoy himself on this smaller court, a bit like Thomas Johansson, David Nalbandian or Jonas Bjorkman. We can already imagine him in exhibition matches with other tennis players who enjoy padel like Stan Wawrinka, Rafa Nadal or Gaël Monfils.

A technical quality transferable to padel?

And in the matches in which it is hoped that he will participate, Roger will be able to count on a certain number of strong points inherited from tennis. Among them :

  • An exceptional hand
  • Reflexes and an ability to volleyball out of the ordinary
  • A quality of service that will be very useful to him on high balls
  • A champion's mind

If we can therefore imagine that, like many high-level tennis players, he will be very comfortable for all shots played live, the Swiss should do more suffer for all those played after the glass. Especially since his knee problems could penalize him on low balls…but also on the many forward/backward runs required by this practice. In padel, the preparations are much shorter than in tennis, another aspect that Roger will have to work on if he wants to be as comfortable as possible in the 20×10.

But anyway, whatever the level of Roger on the track, we can be sure of one thing, that is that he will have the class in all circumstances, and that the fans will always be happy to see him racket at the hand !
