Yes you read that right, thieves specialized in padel articles raged in recent weeks in Catalonia before being arrested on November 4.
A similar modus operandi
The three people concerned, aged 28 to 43, were arrested for their alleged connection with nine flights committed in several sports centers dedicated to padel, tennis and golf in different regions of Catalonia.
What betrayed them was their operating mode which was the same each time : the suspects would travel long distances to reach discreet wooded areas close to their target (the padel centers) and, once out of the light, they would go out and act. After committing the robbery, they would wait in the woods or in vehicles until the start of daily activity and take advantage of the increased movement of vehicles at these times to go unnoticed and avoid being stopped at a police check.
Loot estimated at more than 12 euros
The robberies took place in padel centers located in isolated areas of city centers. The thieves stole the money they found in the establishments, as well as the proceeds from the vending machines and the products on display, which were sold in the stores: jackets, T-shirts, rackets and other items of well-known brands and high prices, all intended for the practice of the sport.
In the early hours of November 4, when sufficient evidence had been gathered to attribute responsibility for the nine thefts committed, a police operation was mounted to locate and arrest them. The estimated booty collected is 4000 euros in terms of clothes and objects, and more 8000 euros in cash were found in the home of the thugs.
The detainees were brought before the Barcelona magistrate's court on November 6, which ordered their release. with charges and the obligation to appear in court every fortnight.
Passionate about football, I discovered padel in 2019. Since then, I have been crazy in love with this sport to the point of abandoning my favorite sport.
