History of the ball

As you would expect, the bullets padel were copied from tennis balls. Tennis with its more than 100 years of history knows a lot about its major accessory.

Since the creation of tennis, the balls used were white for 2 reasons. First of all because the felt comes from sheep's wool and its color is ... white, well done. Then because tennis has always imposed dress standards, and if you take a look at the outfits of the time, they were elegant and… white, the balls had to be too. Even today, during the Wimbledon tournament, players are required to dress in white.

Tennis then appeared on television. The beginnings of the small screen were in black and white, and the color of the ball made it possible to follow the game without any worries. It was in the 1970s, when television turned to color, that the story of the ball changed. On color screens, a white ball is less visible and merges with the color of the lines. What to do ? Change the color of the balls to yellow, more visual on the screen. Gradually, the color of the balls changes on television tournaments then is adopted by amateurs to be today the most used color.

Are there other colors and what does the regulation say?

The rules of tennis like that of padel says that for the realization of official competitions or homologated tournaments, the balls must be yellow or white.

During your matches with friends or during unlicensed tournaments, you are free to play with the balls you want.

And the colors are very varied. Certainly it is much easier to find yellow balls than balls of other colors, but there are pink, green, blue, black and even 2 different colors. We can go so far as to create our own ball.

And you, what would be your favorite ball color?
