New theme addressed by the FFT around the counting of points at the padel. Although this theme is very well known, there are certain specificities.

What is the points tally at padel ?

It's the same as in tennis: "15" when a pair wins a point, "30" when it wins a second point in the game, "40" for the gain of a third point. The “decisive point” rule may or may not apply at 40 all instead of the advantage rule.

How does the application of the decisive point rule translate?

A "tie" (40 all), the receiving pair chooses which side the point will be engaged. Receivers cannot change position to receive this deciding point. The pair that wins the deciding point wins the game.

Note: in mixed, the receiver must be of the same gender as the server.

How does the application of the advantage rule translate?

In the event of a 40/40 tie, the next point won will be called "Advantage": either the pair that has just won the Advantage then wins the next point and wins the game, or the opposing pair wins the next point, and in which case it goes back to 40/40, and so on until a pair wins two consecutive points and wins the game.

How many game formats are there in padel ?

There are 9 game formats for FFT-approved competitions:

  • A1 format: traditional, 3 sets to 6 games
  • Format A2: 3 sets to 6 games with decisive point
  • Format B1: 2 sets to 6 games / 3rd set = super decisive game to 10 points
  • Format B2: 2 sets to 6 games / 3rd set = super decisive game at 10 points, with decisive point
  • Format C1: 2 sets to 4 games (decisive game at 4/4) / 3rd set = super decisive game at 10 points
  • Format C2: 2 sets to 4 games / 3rd set = super decisive game at 10 points, with decisive point (decisive game at 4/4)
  • Format D1: 1 set to 9 games (decisive game at 8/8)
  • Format D2: 1 set to 9 games (decisive game at 8/8) with decisive point
  • Format E: 1 set to 10 points (format reserved for P 25 tournaments)

What is the difference between a tiebreak and a super tiebreak?

  • Tie-breaking game: the pair arriving first at 7 points with a two-point difference will win the round (in the event of a tie at 6 points all, the tie-breaking game will continue until a pair obtains a 2-point lead) .
  • Super tiebreaker: the pair to reach 10 points first with a two point difference will win the round

After being rocked by tennis for nearly 15 years, I became an absolute fan of its cousin, the padel. For nearly a year now, I've been chasing the little yellow ball with another racquet, but with just as much passion! Based in Lyon, I intend to make you better acquainted with the padel in the region and at the national level.
