Interviewed during the Cupra Padel Point Tour from Toulouse, Mélissa Martin returned to her start to the season. The opportunity for her to confide in her goals and ambitions.

A season punctuated by the Cupra Padel Point Tour

“There is a connection between professional and amateur players, that's why I joined: to make sure that people have fun, have a good day and show this festive side of the game. padel. The objective is reached on each stage, it's great.”

A sluggish start to the year

“There were a few defeats on the French circuit with Amélie (Detrivière) in the first tournaments, a first round in P1000 and P2000. We did very well last year with a lot of wins. And since the beginning of the season it's a lot of defeats in very few tournaments.

I had some physical problems at the end of the year and it played a little on the field and in my relationship with Amélie as well. We weren't necessarily in phase and with these defeats, we decided not to play together anymore.

A new partner

"With Louise Bahurel, we will do tournaments and the French Championships. It is the hope of padel French, she is only 16 years old and I have already lost twice against her, it may have weighed in the decision (laughs). I needed a breath of fresh air after this complicated start to the season. I really like his mentality on the pitch despite his youth, I think that we can complement each other well between my experience and his desire to learn. We will try to do the maximum this year.”

Mélissa Martin global window

“I still think about it despite this start to the season. It's a bit far and I'm trying to focus on what to do for the moment, especially since with Louise we don't know yet how we're going to work. She's a left player and I'm likely to switch to the right. If so, I'm going to have to practice a little bit."

Change of side then?

We spoke with Louise, we'll see what happens, she's never really played on the right. I rather appreciate this side, it can bring me a bit of freshness and a lot of challenges. It can be the opportunity to give me a little momentum and it tells me good to know how to play on both sides, to see the game differently. I think it can help me to play on the left.

Roland-Garros in sight

"Now that women are on the Premier Padel, I would like to make the most FIP, to have at least a minimum of points to be able to play the next tournaments of Premier Padel which begin in July. Especially since we have a great stage at Roland-Garros which makes you dream. It's a nice goal. Even A1 tournaments Padel, we will see if with Louise we have the opportunity to do some. I also have a Spaniard with whom I should do some too.”
