Antonio Ocete, joueur et professeur Adidas Padel qui nous parle d’un élément clef du padel et que nous recherchons forcément en tant qu’amateur de ce sport: l´accélération de la balle.
"90% hits are controlled moves"
One of the most important things in the padel and that I often stress to my students, is to take into account the power of the blows we put in the ball.
Indeed, the most frequent shots in the professional paddle are control moves where the precision and the direction of the ball take precedence. Obviously, in the professionals, one can have the impression that it goes very fast. Yet from their point of view, they do a lot more bullets waiting and buildingThanks to controlled blows.
Less frequently, but equally important and even decisive shots, the strong acceleration of the ball must allow to take advantage thanks to the speed and the effect of surprise.
"Control then acceleration"
Good decision-making is therefore vital. Control and acceleration of the ball, the two pillars of the paddle. This is the strategy for us to win the point.
The acceleration of the ball is supposed to be a classic shot but with more power in the ball.
Problem: With a higher speed our body tends to lose control and generate forces that will make the ball not follow exactly the direction we planned in our head.
This is why it is very important to be active at all times, especially when you are in a waiting position (ie when you do not touch the ball during a certain number of exchanges and even points sometimes).
This state of alert makes it possible to react quickly and to prepare us to execute the acceleration blow.
When we hit at low speed, we have greater control of our movement without the need to accompany the shot with the body because the movement is much more controlled.
But when we want to accelerate, it is vital that our body is perfectly maintained, well placed. So we need to be bowed with a well-balanced position and optimize the speed with the hand.
The difficulty is to also have a racket properly inclined to allow the ball to take the desired direction.
Everything depends on the situation
Accelerating a ball also depends on the situation of the players on the field and his own situation or if you are in a defensive or offensive position near the net.
The speed of the opponent's ball is an element to consider as well.
We will try in a future article to explain how to adapt to these situations and how to accelerate a ball in difficult conditions.
